A total profit number on its own tells you almost nothing about how it was made. Two strategies can finish a year at the same total profit and have lived through completely different rides. One traced a clean rising line and barely dipped along the way. What total profit is not: a target. A guarantee. A rate of return for next year. It is a record of a period, on a real account, in conditions that will not repeat exactly. Useful as evidence. Not useful as a promise.
